Sif opened her eyes and felt immediate regret. Where was she? What was this place? Around her was only grayish mist. Her eyes became fixated on the mist and the slowly encrouching dark. She felt an odd feeling, stirring inside her sould. Like the increased beating of a heart. Only, she felt no heart within. Around her, the mist seemed to take form.Hooded, bewinged shades floated around in the mist, seemingly lost and confused. "The light." "The light is fading." "Where is he?" "Where is father?" Sif shook her head, trying to shut out the ethereal voices around her. The fading light seemed to shrink and gather in the north. Sif crawled over the ashen ground towards the source of the light. Around her, the winged shades kept on floating, sometimes past each other, seemingly unaware of the others existance. "Angels?" Sif felt the thought briefly enter her mind as she kept crawling towards the light. With some confusion she noticed the ground beneath her to be made from plates of gold. Faded gold. Giving of no light. Slowly, as she crept closer, the light seemed to become faintly stronger. A huge, golden gate appeared before her tired eyes. The gate, slightly ajar, was the largest gate she had ever seen. And beneath the golden arch, a cloaked and hooded figure appeared out of the growing dark, sitting crosslegged. She crawled closer. The light that surrounded the apparition seemed to shrink the closer she got. "Hello!"she called, her voiced seemed strangely distant in her ears. "Please, stranger, I am very afraid! Can you tell me where I am?" The hooded figure slowly shifted his attention towards her, his deep hood hid his face in inpenetrable darkness. "Come closer, Sif." a voice called calmly. Sif struggled closer to the figure, bypassing ethereal shades, all of them repeating the questions she had already heard. She finally reached the hooded one, coming to a stop within arms-reach of his foreboding figure. "Where am I?" Sif asked "Is this heaven? Where is God?" The hooded one slowly raised his scythe, seemingly inspecting it. "God is here no longer." The hooded one answered calmly. Sif felt a chill pierce her soul. Slowly, she shook her head. "Lies. Why are you lying to me!?" The hooded one laid down his scythe before her. "I don't tell lies Sif. I have never lied to you." "Have we ever met?" The hooded one tilted his head slightly. "You have always known I would come for you. For life is only yours, until I come to claim you." "Where is God?" Sif heard her own voice quiver. The hooded one slowly raised his pale hand, pointing towards the scythe before him. "But God is... immortal. Eternal." she breathed. The hooded one raised his left hand, gently stroking her bright, ethereal hair. "God is dead, Sif. No one exists forever. Not even the being you call gods." "But the texts..." Sif could not finish her sentance. "They lie to you." The hooded one raised his head. The empty hood looking up towards the fading light. "No one. Nothing. Ever. Escapes. Death." Sif would have cried, had she had a body to cry with. For a while, they remained silent, beneath the Gates of Heaven. "What happens now?" "The light of Heaven will fade, leaving only darkness behind." Death explained in a calm, soothing voice. "Then where will I go?" she asked, all hope leaving seemingly leaving her chilling soul. Death reached out his hand towards her. "With me, Sif. As all being go. Sooner. Or later." Leaving the last sliver of hope behind her, Sif reached out her hand to grasp the hooded one's, leaving the Dark Fields of Heaven behind her.
